North Carolina's CBDC ban bill vetoed by governor

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper vetoed a bill that would have banned the state from implementing a Federal Reserve-issued CBDC, despite near-unanimous support in the House and Senate. In a statement dated June 5, Cooper explained that House Bill 690 was too "immature, vague, and reactionary" to be signed into law. The federal level is working to ensure standards and safeguards are in place to protect consumers, investors, and businesses using digital assets, and North Carolina should see how these standards and safeguards work before taking action.
