Messari CEO Ryan Selkis was asked by company leaders to calm down for extreme remarks
Messari's founder and CEO, Ryan Selkis, drew widespread attention with a series of fiery tweets on social media, including saying that opponents of Trump "can die" and suggesting that a civil war had begun. His comments caused concern among colleagues at the company, and Messari's leadership asked him to calm down.
Selkis' fiery remarks included his reaction to the attempted assassination of Trump, as well as anti-immigrant and anti-leftist rhetoric. He also called Senator Elizabeth Warren "public enemy number one" of cryptocurrencies and suggested she had a physical resemblance to Trump's attempted assassin. In addition, he threatened Securities and Exchange Commission Chairperson Gary Gensler with imminent jail time.
Although Selkis admitted on Twitter that he was "so excited this week" and said that the issue would be fully resolved soon, he did not significantly reduce the intensity of his remarks. Selkis emphasized self-defense and serious concerns about the current political situation in his tweets.
This extreme rhetoric has raised widespread questions about his behavior as CEO of a major cryptocurrency data platform, especially in the context of Messari's significant venture capital backing.
