Spanish bank Unicaja invests in crypto exchange Bit2Me
Last week, Unicaja, one of Spain's top five banks, said its venture capital arm invested in cryptocurrency exchange Bit2Me. The startup, which has more than a million customers, is the first cryptocurrency service provider to be registered with a Spanish bank. Terms of the deal were not announced, but the Spanish bank holds more than 5 percent of the exchange and has joined its board of directors. In addition, the two companies also signed a business cooperation agreement.
The bank wants a technology partner to explore three emerging areas: new opportunities arising from the European Union's MiCA regulations; asset tokenization and broader blockchain under the DLT pilot regime; and the digital euro.
In addition, Bit2Me plans to offer Unicaja banking services to its customers.
