The Kobeissi Letter: Retail investors' share of options trading just hit an all-time high of 18%
The Kobeissi Letter said in a social media post that the share of retail investors in options trading has just hit a record high of 18%. This proportion is even higher than during the meme boom in 2021.
At the same time, the average daily volume of options trading reached a record 47 million this year, according to Options Clearing Corp. That means individual investors now trade 8.50 million options contracts a day.
The rise of Gamestop, GME and other memes has also contributed to the recent surge in options trading volumes, with retail risk appetite hitting record highs.
