US offers $10 million reward for location or identity information on North Korean hacker Rim Jong Hyok
A US grand jury indicted Rim Jong Hyok, a North Korean citizen, on charges that he conspired to hack and extort hospitals, launder ransoms and finance intrusions into defence, technology and government entities around the world. The US State Department is offering a reward of up to $10 million for information about Rim Jong Hyok's location or identity. According to the Department of Justice, Rim Jong Hyok, a North Korean hacker, was indicted for participating in ransomware attacks against US hospitals and healthcare providers by developing and using bespoke ransomware called "Maui" that attacked and encrypted the computer networks of multiple US hospitals and healthcare facilities, and then extorted victims to pay a ransom to unlock their data.
