Google apologizes: Chrome vulnerability caused 15 million Windows users to lose passwords
On July 29th, Google has publicly apologized for the loss of passwords for about 15 million Windows users due to a vulnerability in the Chrome password manager. The issue began on July 24th and lasted nearly 18 hours due to "product behavior changes that did not establish appropriate functional protection". The incident affected users using the M127 version Chrome, making it impossible to access or save passwords. Google estimates that about 25% of users were affected by the configuration change, and 2% of them faced password manager issues, equivalent to about 15 million users. Google provided a temporary solution and quickly rolled out a permanent fix. Users are advised to restart the Chrome to restore functionality, and users who still have problems are advised to contact GoogleWorkspace support.
