Informed sources: Harris' running mate may be on the horizon
Harris, the Democratic contender for the U.S. presidential election, will visit key states next week with her vice presidential nominee, two people familiar with the matter revealed Tuesday, indicating that the selection process for her running mate is nearing an end. The high-stakes decision on who will be Harris' running mate has been in the spotlight since she emerged as the Democratic general election front-runner after Biden ended his campaign more than a week ago. Harris' campaign has said she will select her vice presidential nominee by Aug. 7 - but her selection could be announced earlier.
Harris will announce her vice-presidential pick ahead of a visit to a swing state next week, one of the sources said. The list of candidates under consideration includes Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
