Montenegro court paves way for Do Kwon's extradition to South Korea
An appeals court in Montenegro upheld a ruling that Terraform Labs Pte. Co-founder Do Kwon should be deported to his native South Korea, rejecting a recommendation to send him to the United States. Thursday's ruling is the latest in a series of rulings by Montenegro, which has been facing a dual request from the United States and South Korea to extradite the disgraced former cryptocurrency tycoon.
The court in Podgorica said in a statement on its website on Thursday that no one had appealed against the verdict, which also upheld an expedited extradition procedure previously enacted by another court in Montenegro. Responding to Bloomberg after the verdict was announced, Goran Rodic, Do Kwon's lawyer, said Montenegro would arrange the extradition with the assistance of the International Police Criminal Organisation and expressed the hope that it could be completed "as soon as possible".
