Trump Suggests Repaying $35 trillion Treasury with Bitcoin
Trump discussed cryptocurrencies in an interview with Fox Business on Friday. Trump emphasized the importance of the United States leading the way in cryptocurrency, suggesting the government could use bitcoin to pay off $35 trillion in national debt. He described cryptocurrency as "a different form of money" that has been "prominent" and "massive" and said "it will ultimately benefit the nation".
You have to understand cryptocurrencies, he said. Cryptocurrencies are a very interesting thing and in some ways very high-level. He reiterated his position that if the US does not accept cryptocurrencies, China and other countries will. "So we better be at the forefront".
Trump said: "There are some very, very smart people in the cryptocurrency space who love our country and think it's great: who knows, maybe we'll pay off our $35 trillion debt. Give them a little cryptocurrency check... give them a little bitcoin and we'll pay off our $35 trillion.
