New York Times: OpenAI has not revealed security bugs for 2023

According to a report in the New York Times on July 4, OpenAI suffered security bugs in 2023, but did not disclose the incident to the outside of the company. OpenAI executives allegedly disclosed the incident internally at a meeting in April 2023, but not publicly because the attackers did not have access to information about customers or partners. Furthermore, the executives did not believe the incident posed a national security threat because they believed the attackers were individuals with no ties to foreign governments. They did not report the incident to the FBI or other law enforcement agencies. The attackers reportedly accessed OpenAI's internal messaging system and stole details about the design of the company's artificial intelligence technology from employee conversations in online forums. They did not have access to OpenAI's systems to "house and build artificial intelligence" or to the code.
