Fed Collins: If the data is as expected, it is appropriate to start easing policy "soon"
Federal Reserve Collins: If the data is as expected, it would be appropriate to begin easing policy "very soon." Who is in the White House will in no way affect my assessment of the state of the economy, or my outlook for the future, or policy as I see fit. I expect lower interest rates in a few years. We will release a new summary of economic forecasts in September, which includes the outlook of the FOMC's 19 commissioners based on the data we have seen so far. It will include our outlook for interest rates at the end of 2024, 2025 and 2026. I do expect that we will see some easing in monetary policy in the coming years. But exactly how big, how long and how fast the adjustment will be will have to be determined by the data.
