U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer plans to speak at a Crypto4Harris event
New York Democrat and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer will speak Wednesday at a town hall meeting hosted by Crypto4Harris, a group that aims to reshape cryptocurrencies' relationship with presidential candidate and current Vice President Kamala Harris, according to people familiar with the matter.
The New York Democrat will speak alongside cryptocurrency industry insiders and lawmakers at 8 p.m. ET, according to people familiar with the matter. Schumer was one of several Democrats who voted in July to overturn Employee Accounting Bulletin 121, or SAB 121. The announcement has sparked controversy over the past year as the crypto industry fears it could hamper banks in protecting digital assets.
At the same time, a source who spoke to members of Harris' campaign team said that candidate Harris has started reaching out to the cryptocurrency industry and said they would like to learn more about cryptocurrencies. Harris has not yet made his stance on cryptocurrencies public.
