Cryptocurrency adoption jumped by 6.4% in the first half of 2024, primarily driven by the growth of Bitcoin and Ethereum
On August 20th, according to the latest market size report of Crypto.com, the number of holders (ownership) in the global cryptocurrency market has increased significantly in the first half of this year. As of June, this number has increased by 6.4% from 580 million at the end of 2023 to 617 million. This growth is mainly driven by key developments in the Bitcoin and Ethereum ecosystems, particularly the launch of its related spot ETF. Bitcoin continues to dominate, with its holders growing by 5.9% to 314 million by the middle of the year, accounting for 51% of all cryptocurrency holders. Meanwhile, Ethereum's adoption has increased by 9.7%, bringing the total number of ETH owners to 136 million, accounting for 22% of the global market. According to the report, there are two major events driving the growth in bitcoin adoption.
