The number of bitcoin addresses holding more than 10 BTC has rebounded from the decline in Quarter 1
The number of Bitcoin addresses holding at least 10 BTC has declined in 2024. The number of such addresses was around 155,500 at the beginning of the year, with Quarter 1 declining, reaching a low of around 152,600 in late March. The decline runs counter to the price movement of Bitcoin over the same period and reflects profit-taking by smart money. However, with the price of Bitcoin stabilizing around $60,000, the number of addresses holding more than 10 BTC reversed in August, recovering to 153,500.
Historically, there has been an upward trend in the number of addresses holding at least 10 BTC, especially since 2015 when the price of Bitcoin surged from below $500 to above $60,000 in 2021. This long-term growth highlights the increasing accumulation of large holders and is often seen as a sign of confidence in Bitcoin's value proposition. However, the mid-2024 decline suggests that Bitcoin will be allocated or redistributed in the short term as the market adjusts after the "lifting of the ban".
