Musk refused to appoint a representative, and Brazil's Supreme Court immediately suspended X
Brazil's Supreme Court has ordered the immediate shutdown of Mr. Musk's social media platform X after he refused to appoint a legal representative in Brazil. The ban ends a months-long feud between Mr. Musk and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who is spearheading a crackdown on fake news and hate speech that he says undermines Brazilian democracy. Mr. Musk and conservatives, including former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, have said the judges overstepped their authority and undermined free speech. On August 18, Moraes issued an order blocking Starlink's bank accounts, forcing the company to pay a fine against X. In an appeal filed on Friday, Starlink Brazil asked the Supreme Court to quash the order, saying its internet business was not a case against X.
