Fake Ukrainian police arrested for extorting $250,000 USDT from entrepreneurs
Ukrainian police on Monday arrested a criminal gang that allegedly extorted $250,000 in USDT by posing as law enforcement officials and threatening a young entrepreneur to face criminal charges on fictitious charges. Four suspects detained by the Cyber Police and the Internal Security Department of the National Police face up to 12 years in prison, according to a statement. The gang allegedly intimidated the entrepreneur, accusing him of collaborating with Russia and threatening him with a long prison term for treason. They offered to exchange $250,000 for "solving the problem" and demanded that it be transferred in cryptocurrency.
The entrepreneur, fearing legal repercussions, agreed to the request and transferred 250,000 USDT to a crypto wallet controlled by the gang. According to the statement, the criminals then quickly moved the stolen funds through crypto exchanges.
