US, European Union and UK sign world's first international artificial intelligence treaty

The United States, the European Union, and the United Kingdom signed the world's first legally binding international artificial intelligence treaty, prioritizing human rights and accountability in artificial intelligence regulation. The convention emphasizes human rights and democratic values as key to regulating artificial intelligence models in the public and private sectors. This artificial intelligence convention will become the first international artificial intelligence treaty in the world to be legally binding on signatories. It makes all persons liable for any harm or discrimination caused by artificial intelligence systems. The bill also requires the output of said systems to respect citizens' equal rights and privacy rights, providing legal resources for victims of artificial intelligence rights violations. However, follow-up enhancements such as fines are not yet in place if any infringement occurs. In addition, compliance with the treaty is currently enforced only through monitoring.
