SEC Crypto Enforcement Hits $4.70 billion This Year, Up 3,000% From 2023
In 2024, the SEC carried out nearly $4.70 billion worth of enforcement actions against cryptocurrency companies and their executives, an increase of more than 3,000 percent from 2023.
According to a September 9 report from Social Capital Markets, the SEC's record this year was largely due to its massive $4.47 billion settlement with TerraformLabs and its former CEO DoKwon in June - its "largest enforcement action to date".
The regulator took 11 enforcement actions in 2024, and although the number of actions against cryptocurrency companies decreased by 19, the amount of fines increased by 3,018% compared to last year's $150.30 million.
