Bitnomial is suing the SEC over XRP futures, challenging the agency's continued claims that XRP is a security
The Securities Exchange Commission remains convinced that cryptocurrency XRP is a security, FOX Business has learned. The disclosure follows a lawsuit filed late Thursday night by cryptocurrency derivatives exchange Bitnomial, which sued Wall Street's top cop for claiming that the SEC has jurisdiction over a planned futures contract that tracks the price of XRP, the seventh-largest digital asset by market capitalization.
Bitnomial, which is regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, a sister body of the Securities Exchange Commission, self-certified the XRP USD futures contract in August following the conclusion of the SEC's lawsuit against blockchain payments firm Ripple.
