Hong Kong Securities Supervision Commission CEO: Central bankers and economists mostly agree that virtual assets such as bitcoin and ether have intrinsic value
Speaking at the Greenwich Economic Forum (Hong Kong) on "Building a Fintech Ecosystem to Shape the Future of Finance", Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Securities Supervision Commission, Leung Fung-yee, said that DLT is applied to virtual assets in financial marekt. If you ask central bankers and economists whether virtual assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum have intrinsic value, most of them will reject it, and I have no objection to their position. Although the issue of intrinsic value is still debated by all parties, the fact that Bitcoin has undergone multiple cycles of rise and fall in the past 15 years is evidence of its viability as an alternative asset. More certainly, as the underlying technology of Bitcoin, DLT will stand the test of time.
Liang Fengyi also said that the NFT craze may have subsided, but the technology is gradually being adopted by the real asset world. Advocates are increasingly talking about how decentralized finance (DeFi) has injected new life into physical assets in recent years, and physical assets have gradually been tokenized.
