White House: Biden thanks Nigerian president for releasing Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan
U.S. President Joe Biden called Nigerian President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday to thank him on the phone for the release of U.S. citizen and Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan, according to a statement issued by the White House on Tuesday. During the call, Biden "emphasized his gratitude to President Tinubu for his leadership in securing Gambaryan's release," the release said. Biden particularly appreciated cooperation on law enforcement, including through the recently announced Bilateral Contact Group on Illicit Finance and Cryptocurrencies, cooperation on new and innovative technologies, and a shared interest in reforming international organizations to reflect African voices.
Previously, it was reported that on the day of Tigran Gambaryan's release, the US State Department announced the establishment of a new bilateral contact group between the United States and Nigeria to focus on cryptocurrencies and illicit finance.
