State officials in Michigan are optimistic that preliminary election results will be released by noon on Wednesday
Officials in the US state of Michigan expressed optimism over the tally of Tuesday's election results, with preliminary results expected by midday on Wednesday at the latest. Jocelyn Benson, Michigan secretary of state, noted that new rules allowing election workers to process absentee ballots as early as October 28 had made vote counting more efficient. "We are in an excellent position to process late ballots," Mr. Benson said. It is the first time Michigan has allowed pre-processing of absentee ballots in a statewide election. While former president Donald Trump would like to see Michigan's results on election night, one Trump supporter said she did not expect to hear them that night and expressed no concern. "I know it's not going to happen and I'm not going to stay up late waiting."
