LayerZero CEO: The method of proof of donation is to avoid short-term speculation
LayerZero Labs co-founder and CEO Bryan Pellegrino (stinky penguin) explained LayerZero's Proof of Donation mechanism and the logic behind it in detail in his latest tweet. Pellegrino said that Airdrop has gone from its original intention. Excessive speculation has led users to keep using the agreement just to get more free tokens, and there is a lack of long-term agreement alignment and loyalty.
Pellegrino pointed out that LayerZero is a great fit with the community in 2022, but with the emergence of other large-scale airdrop events in 2023, user expectations for LayerZero's airdrop have also increased rapidly. Although LayerZero never officially planned an airdrop, speculation in the market has led to a surge in protocol usage, leading to tremendous pressure and high expectations. To avoid this short-term speculation, LayerZero has opted for a proof-of-donation approach, hoping that users will support groups in real need through small donations and enhance the value alignment with the protocol. This mechanism is designed to encourage users to stop and think before participating, pushing them to align more closely with LayerZero's core values.
