Apple will not launch AI technology in the European Union this year due to concerns about the impact of digital market laws
In light of the European Union's Digital Market Act, Apple has decided not to introduce new artificial intelligence technology to hundreds of millions of users in the European Union market for the time being. The company announced Friday that it will not release Apple Intelligence, iPhone Mirroring and SharePlay Screen Sharing to European Union users this year because the Digital Market Act is said to force Apple to lower the security level of its products and services. "We are concerned that the interoperability requirements of the Digital Market Act may force us to compromise the integrity of our products in a way that undermines user privacy and data security," Apple said in a statement. Under the Digital Market Act, Apple is expected to receive a formal warning from European Union regulators for allegedly blocking apps from directing users to cheaper online subscription services. Earlier this year, Apple was fined 1.80 billion euros (about $1.90 billion) by European Union regulators for the matter.
