MagicBlock, a third of the Solana gaming infrastructure company, is open-sourcing a16z-supported "ephemeral rollup" technology. MagicBlock does this by running a non-voting Solana validator that runs with Solana tools, and can temporarily "elasticize" computing resources before the security board validates the state to place its settlement to Layer 1. Solana's data is temporarily moved to rollup (such as on Ethereum) to perform some time or resource-sensitive functions, which are usually performed off-chain on a centralized server.
