Trump has reached a settlement with ABC over a defamation lawsuit

ABC has agreed to pay $15 million to settle a defamation lawsuit filed by US President-elect Trump against a well-known host of the TV station. The fee will be paid to foundations and libraries established by Trump in the future. ABC will also publish a statement on its website expressing "regret" over comments made on the show by host Stephanopoulos, according to the settlement documents released on the same day. In the lawsuit, Mr. Trump accuses Mr. Stephanopoulos of repeatedly claiming on television that Mr. Trump had been convicted of "raping" writer Carol, which Mr. Trump believes damaged his reputation. According to the findings of a federal jury in the United States in May 2023, Trump sexually assaulted and defamed Carroll, but did not commit rape.
