Ten regions of Russia are banning cryptocurrency mining today
Cryptocurrency mining was completely banned in ten regions of Russia on January 1, and a partial ban was implemented in three other regions. The government decree, passed on December 23, provides for a total ban on mining from January 2025 to March 2031, and in three other regions, mining is partially restricted in every heating season until 2031 (from November 15 to March 15 each year, except for the first year after the ban takes effect from January 1, 2025).
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said at the end of December that the number of regions banning cryptocurrency mining could increase if requested by the governor. Authorities in the Republic of Khakassia have asked the Ministry of Energy to limit mining activities in the region.
