Ethereum Newsweek has announced that it will cease operations

Evan Van Ness, founder of Week in Ethereum News (WiE), posted on social media that due to a conversation with the Ethereum Foundation (EF) leadership at the beginning of this year, I am announcing that this newsletter will be discontinued because the communication shows that they see no value in continuing to operate Ethereum Newsweek. In 2024, WiE received only minimal funding from the Ethereum Foundation. While this support was mostly symbolic, the EF leadership chose to cut off this negligible support, making it clear that WiE would end immediately. The Ethereum Foundation's withdrawal of support has made it clearer than any other way that it is time for WiE to end. Ethereum Newsweek used to have good results. Over the years, at conferences, many developers have told me that WiE has had an impact on their Solidity or security careers. They often mention that this newsletter, which was once the upstream source for most pro-Ethereum news, made them decide to buy ETH. Sadly, WiE failed to find a sustainable business model. Advertising and sponsorship are hard to sell because marketing directors don't value developers. I have high standards for content, but it's too time-consuming to do it profitably.
