The Speaker of the US House of Representatives has said he will resolve the debt ceiling issue by the June deadline
According to Politico, U.S. Republicans were already worried that it would be difficult to pass new policies on borders, energy and taxes with the budget reconciliation process. And U.S. House Speaker Johnson added another layer of complexity when he promised incoming President Trump in December that he would also use the reconciliation bill to raise the debt ceiling. Conservatives are generally opposed to raising the debt ceiling and have demanded deep spending cuts in exchange for their support. Asked if the package is delayed and results in a possible risk to the nation's credit rating, Johnson said in a brief interview on Tuesday that he was still pushing for the measure and reiterated his optimistic timeline for the package. "We will get the debt ceiling right by the June deadline. So we're not worried, "Mr. Johnson said, referring to a preliminary estimate of when the United States could be at risk of default unless Congress acts.
