The platform responded to a total of 900 inquiries from the United States throughout the year, affecting 2,253 users, indicating an increase in the number of requests after October, most of which were made after CEO Pavel Durov was arrested in France. On August 24 last year, French authorities arrested Durov, accusing Telegram of assisting in criminal activities. He said in October that the platform had been providing the IP addresses and phone numbers of suspected criminals to authorities in different countries on request since 2018, a policy disclosed in Telegram's Privacy Policy. French authorities have barred Durov from leaving the country, and the legal case is still pending.
