Hong Kong Monetary and Financial Research Center: 85% of Financial Institution Groups Plan to Include Virtual Assets in Core Business Operations in the Next Three Years

The Hong Kong Centre for Monetary and Financial Research has released two applied finance research reports entitled "Decentralized Finance (DeFi): Current Status and Regulatory Developments" and "Meta Universe: Opportunities and Challenges for the Financial Services Industry". Introducing the report, the head of the Hong Kong Centre for Monetary and Financial Research, Wei Songyi, pointed out that the survey shows that local market participants are expanding their participation and are deeply interested in virtual assets. Among them, 85% of the surveyed Financial Institution Groups plan to integrate virtual assets into their core business operations in the next three years. The main benefits of DeFi for business operations include improved efficiency and decentralized governance. At the same time, about 65% of the Financial Institution Groups surveyed said that they have ventured into the meta-universe. At present, their applications are mainly concentrated in marketing and promotion, internal operations, talent recruitment, and work-related social activities.
