Hao Gang, former deputy director of Beijing's local financial supervision bureau, is suspected of bitcoin money laundering

On February 8, according to Caixin, nearly two years after being investigated, Hao Gang, the former deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Financial Supervision Bureau, was sentenced to 11 years in prison in the first instance. According to Caixin's understanding from multiple channels, Hao Gang was involved in bitcoin money laundering; in addition, he also assisted a top bitcoin mining company executive to lift the border control, accepting bribes or up to 10 million yuan. On February 6, 2025, the Second Intermediate Court of Beijing Municipality publicly sentenced Hao Gang to eight years in prison and a fine of 500,000 yuan for the crime of accepting bribes, and sentenced Hao Gang to four years in prison and a fine of 800,000 yuan for the crime of money laundering. It decided to execute the fixed-term imprisonment for 11 years and impose a fine of 1.3 million yuan. The illegal income and fruits of bribery were recovered, confiscated, and turned over to the state treasury.
