According to Glassnode, the 1 million "wholecoiner" (number of bitcoin-wide coin holders) milestone was first achieved on May 13, 2023, when bitcoin was trading at just $27,000. On January 1 this year, the number of wholecoiner wallet addresses reached an all-time high, with just over 1,024,000 wallets holding one or more bitcoins. Despite the price of bitcoin skyrocketing to double in May 2023, the number of wallet addresses holding one or more bitcoins is still as high as 1,010,800. It is worth pointing out that one bitcoin wallet address does not always represent one person. Many cryptocurrency investors own multiple bitcoin addresses, and others belong to major institutions such as cryptocurrency exchanges and investment firms that typically own large amounts of bitcoins.
19.70 million bitcoin currently in circulation, 2.48 million (worth $152 billion) are held on large centralized exchanges such as Binance and
Coinbase.
Furthermore, according to Glassnode's estimates, up to 3 million BTC (worth $80.40 billion, or 17% of the total supply in circulation) "disappeared forever."
