Argentine lawyer files criminal complaint with FBI and Department of Justice over LIBRA

An Argentine law firm filed a criminal complaint with the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on February 17, accusing them of being behind the LIBRA token crash and asking for an investigation into Argentine President Millai's role in it. On another legal front, the Civic Coalition ARI also filed a criminal complaint on February 17, asking the Justice Department to investigate allegations of bribery and fraud by Millay. The LIBRA token surged on February 14 after President Millai posted a post about the project on the X platform (formerly Twitter). The post, which has now been deleted, emphasized that the project would be used to fund "small businesses and startups in Argentina" and included a contract address, causing the token's market cap to spike to $4.56 billion at one point, but then quickly fell to $257 million within hours. These new legal challenges build on previous criminal charges in Argentina, accusing Millai of participating in fraud by backing the token.
