Australia's four largest banks unanimously expect the Reserve Bank of Australia to cut interest rates today

Australia's four largest banks all forecast the Reserve Bank of Australia will cut interest rates by 25 basis points today, but they are divided on the bank's move after the rate cut. Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Westpac, two of the country's biggest banks, believe the RBA will cut interest rates a total of four times by the end of the year, which will bring the cash rate down to 3.35% by December. National Australia Bank is the last of the big four to join the consensus that interest rates will be cut today, but is actually more optimistic about the degree of monetary easing this year: its economists expect a total of five rate cuts in 2025. At the other extreme of the forecast is ANZ, which expects only two rate cuts throughout the year, with the official cash rate falling to 3.85% by December. (Jin Ten)
