U.S. Treasury Secretary Bescent: Musk's DOGE has saved about $50 billion
U.S. Treasury Secretary Vincent Bescent said Musk's Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE) is committed to making the federal government more efficient, so that U.S. taxpayers don't have to worry about the security of their personal data.
So far, the DOGE team has identified about $50 billion in savings, Bescent said in an interview with Fox News on Tuesday. "So that's a good place to start." Cost-cutting efforts could end up saving "us a few percentage points of GDP," he added.
However, the DOGE team's attempt to access data on a wide range of taxpayers, including individuals, has raised privacy concerns among Democratic lawmakers, and Mr. Bessant said US taxpayers "don't need to worry about these things".
