IRS plans to cut nearly 45,000 jobs
The Internal Revenue Service is drawing up plans to cut its 90,000-strong workforce by as much as half through layoffs, attrition and incentive buy-out offers, according to two people familiar with the matter. The cuts are part of the Trump administration's attempt to shrink the federal workforce through Mr. Musk's government efficiency arm by closing some agencies, laying off nearly all probation period employees who do not have civil service protections, and offering buy-out offers to nearly all federal employees through a "delayed resignation program" to quickly reduce the number of government employees.
