IRS plans to cut nearly 45,000 jobs
On March 5th, according to the Associated Press, two people familiar with the matter said that the Internal Revenue Service is drafting plans to cut its workforce of up to 90,000 by as much as half through layoffs, attrition and incentive buy-out offers. The layoffs are part of the Trump administration's attempt to shrink the size of the federal government workforce through Musk's government efficiency unit, including closing some agencies, laying off almost all probation period employees who are not yet protected by civil servants, and offering buy-out offers to almost all federal employees through a "delayed resignation program" to quickly reduce the number of government employees.
