Blockchain-related terms in SEC filings hit a record high in February
Terms involving blockchain in Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) filings reached an all-time high in February, with the EDGAR database recording more than 5,000 related mentions, a trend that has continued to rise since mid-2023.
This increase is in line with a significant shift in the SEC's approach to crypto regulation. Since the January presidential transition, when acting chairperson Mark Uyeda took office, the SEC has ended multiple investigations of companies such as Uniswap, Coinbase, Yuga Labs, Kraken, and Gemini, marking a shift from the "enforcement regulation" strategy of former chairperson Gary Gensler. Additionally, the crypto task force established by Uyeda in late January, led by pro-crypto commissioner Hester Peirce, plans to hold its first round of roundtables this month to explore more collaborative regulatory models.
