Russian law enforcement has seized an illegal crypto mining operation at an orphanage in Siberia

The Irkutsk regional prosecutor's office in Bohan seized an illegal cryptocurrency mining farm in a three-story orphanage in the village of Kazachiye, where law enforcement officials seized 96 mining equipment. The building was a closed educational institution. A non-profit organization operated the mine without permission, violating electricity and fire safety regulations, failing to maintain equipment or install a fire alarm system. The court ordered the removal of all mining equipment and the illegal use of the land, and prosecutors have filed an administrative case against the group's head. Illegal mining sites continue to appear in various buildings and are a focus of crackdowns in Irkutsk region, which attracts a large number of miners due to low electricity prices and cold weather, despite the government's plan to ban mining by 2031.
