A US judge has issued a preliminary injunction banning the Department of Government Efficiency from accessing personal data from three federal agencies

On March 24 local time, U.S. District Judge Deborah Boardman issued a preliminary injunction barring the Department of Government Effectiveness from accessing personal data from the U.S. Department of Education, Treasury and the Office of Personnel Management. It is reported that the union consortium filed a lawsuit in federal court in Maryland last month, led by the American Federation of Teachers, alleging that the Trump administration violated federal privacy laws by allowing the Department of Government Effectiveness, led by Musk, to access systems containing personal information about tens of millions of Americans without their consent. The judge said the government had failed to adequately explain why the Department of Government Effectiveness needed access to "millions of records" to perform its job duties.
