The Turkish Finance Minister will hold a conference call with international investors today
Mar 25 - Turkish Finance Minister Simsek will hold a conference call with international investors on Tuesday, according to people familiar with the matter. Turkish authorities are trying to reassure the market. Simsek is scheduled to speak in a conference call at 1pm London time (21:00 Beijing time tonight). Turkish markets have been under pressure since last Wednesday, when Istanbul Mayor Imamoglu was detained and later formally arrested. Imamoglu is widely seen as the strongest opponent of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The Turkish lira and stock market fell sharply in response, prompting policymakers to take emergency measures, including unexpected interest rate hikes and a ban on selling short stocks.
