Turkish authorities are trying to reassure the market. Simsek is scheduled to speak in a conference call at 1pm London time (21:00 Beijing time tonight). Turkish markets have been under pressure since last Wednesday, when Istanbul Mayor Imamoglu was detained and later formally arrested. Imamoglu is widely seen as the strongest opponent of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
