Trump: Any tariff deal will be reached after the measures take effect on April 2
On March 29th, local time on March 28th, US President Trump plans to announce new tariffs in the next few days. He said that he is somewhat open to reaching tariff agreements with other countries, but he hinted that any agreement will be reached after the tariff measures take effect on April 2nd. Asked by reporters on "Air Force One" en route to Florida if he is willing to discuss with countries such as the United Kingdom to reach a deal to reduce tariffs on the United States, Trump said, "If we can get something out of this deal, it is possible - but you know, we have been used for 40 years, or even longer. This kind of thing will not happen again. But yes, of course I am willing to accept it." Asked if that would happen before the tariffs were announced on April 2, he said: "No. Probably later." Mr. Trump also reiterated plans to announce tariffs on medicines, but declined to say what those tariffs would be.
