France fines Apple 150 million euros for iOS data consent rules
On March 31st, French antitrust authorities fined Apple 150 million euros (about $162 million) for its application tracking transparency (ATT) system not complying with European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) privacy rules.
French antitrust authorities have argued that Apple's ATT framework, which forces apps to display multiple pop-ups, complicates the user experience and prevents advertisers from complying effectively with GDPR rules, was "unnecessary and disproportionate" and implemented in an "abusive manner" within the meaning of competition law.
