Hong Kong Securities Supervision Commission warns the public to beware of seven entities including XTCQT, CEG and BTEPRO suspected of engaging in virtual asset-related fraud

According to the official website of the Hong Kong Securities Supervision Commission, the Hong Kong Securities Supervision Commission has warned the public to beware of seven entities suspected of engaging in fraudulent activities claimed to be related to virtual assets (collectively referred to as the suspected entities), which operate under the following names: XTCQT, CEG, BTEPRO, Bitones.org, Yomaex Crypto Market Limited (also known as "Yomaex"), Bstor (also known as "Bstorest"), Taurusemex. According to the Hong Kong Securities Supervision Commission, the suspected entities claimed to provide cryptocurrency trading services, and some of them used social media platforms or instant messaging software to direct investors to their respective websites to register as users investing in cryptocurrencies. Some investors reported problems withdrawing money from the suspected entities. In some cases, the suspected entities have suspended withdrawals by claiming that investor accounts are involved in money laundering activities or illegal funds. Investors have been required to pay high "fees" or "taxes" to process their withdrawal applications or restart suspended accounts. One of the suspected entities, Taurusemex, also falsely claimed that investor accounts are regulated by the Securities Supervision Commission. The police have taken action to block the relevant websites at the request of the Securities Supervision Commission. While the police have taken action, the public should beware that fraudsters may continue to set up websites with similar domain names. The suspected entities and their respective websites were placed on the Securities Supervision Commission's Suspicious Virtual Asset Trading Platform Alert List on July 5, 2024.
