Futu invests HK $440 million in Hong Kong virtual bank Airstar Bank
Futu Holdings announced the completion of the HK $440 million investment in the parent company of Star Bank, a licensed virtual bank in Hong Kong. After the completion of the investment, Futu became the second largest beneficial owner indirectly holding 44.11% of the shares of Star Bank. Star Bank became a licensed bank of HKMA since May 9, 2019, and officially launched its business on June 11, 2020. The former major shareholder was Xiaomi Group. After this change, Xiaomi Group held 50.30% and Futu held 44.11%. Futu's capital injection is mainly to support the development of Star Bank's business, promote business diversification, and promote the ecological development of the industry, help Hong Kong continue to innovate and popularize financial technology, and deepen financial inclusion. The current capital injection plan has been unanimously approved and supported by shareholders and the board of directors.
