In a court filing on Tuesday, cryptocurrency exchange
Coinbase filed a motion asking a New York court to order the SEC and Chairperson Gary Gensler to hand over documents that
Coinbase says are central to its lawsuit against the agency.
In the motion, Coinbase said that several years before the SEC sued Coinbase, the agency's commissioners and staff met with crypto market stakeholders, including Coinbase, and issued public statements and guidance on crypto regulation. Coinbase asked the court to compel the agency to provide certain documents related to the tokens in the SEC complaint, documents regarding the SEC's consideration of Coinbase as a public company in April 2021, and statements made by Gensler regarding his personal and professional tenure at the SEC.
