Synchron, a US brain-computer company, allows its OpenAI model to give patients the ability to communicate
Synchron, a US-based brain-computer interface (BCI) company, has announced the integration of OpenAI's artificial intelligence model into the chat function of its BCI platform, which can provide users with a generative chat function. Synchron said the new AI chat function can receive input from text, audio and images, and generate prompts for users to use when texting, which will help users interact with the outside world more effectively and naturally. "As my condition worsens, I may lose my ability to communicate," said Mark, a 64-year-old ALS patient, according to the release. "But this technology gives me hope that in the future I will still be able to easily connect with my loved ones. This will be transformative." According to reports, Mark implanted Synchron's BCI in August 2023 and has been intermittently testing the new AI chat feature for the past two months. Mark told the media that the new feature could help him save valuable time and effort while texting.
