Chinese Businessperson Robbed in Thailand, Forced to Transfer 2 million Dollar Cryptocurrency
On August 16, according to the Bangkok Post, Thai police are hunting for four Chinese suspects who broke into a mansion in Pathum Thani and forced victims of one nationality to transfer 2 million US dollars (about 70 million Thai baht) digital currency.
The incident took place at around 2am on Wednesday at a house in Ban Mai sub-district, Mang district. Thai police reported that there were six occupants in the house at the time - three men and three women. One victim, identified as Ke Jibao, 35, is a Chinese businessman. He said he and his wife were sleeping in their bedroom at the time when four suspects broke into their house wearing hoods. Each suspect was in possession of a firearm and knives. Mr. Ke, his wife and a maid were bound hands and feet. Mr. Ke told investigators that he did not know the motive for the armed robbery or how the gang knew his relative.
Police said the robbery was well planned as the suspect did not use a vehicle when he successfully entered the residential area, so there was no need to show his ID to security guards. Pak Khlong Rangsit Police Chief Colonel Narong Iamrahong said investigators were looking at footage from other security cameras in the area to track down the suspect. He also said the victim and neighbours would be further questioned.
