Poll: Harris secures top spot among Democratic candidates
Voters' views of Harris are slightly better than they were in July, when President Joe Biden just dropped out of the race, according to a new poll by the Associated Press Center for Public Affairs Research. The Democratic presidential nominee is now viewed positively, not negatively. Former President Donald Trump's approval rating remains steady, although the poll was taken before the assassination of the Republican nominee on a golf course in Florida on Sunday (Sept. 15).
Currently, about half of registered voters have a favorable opinion of Harris, compared to 37% who have a favorable opinion of Trump. Both candidates are currently in similar approval ratings as they were in August. The August 2024 poll found that 48% of the public had a favorable opinion of Harris and 41% of the public had a favorable opinion of Trump. The latest poll found that 88% of Democratic voters had a favorable opinion of Harris and 77% of Republican voters had a positive opinion of Trump.
